mini style // billy bibs
A little while back, I was perusing Instagram and I happened across some adorable baby bibs unlike any I had ever seen before. They were made from interesting fabrics and had the sweetest little fringe and pom pom trims. They were even, dare I say, boho chic, which is something that probably wouldn’t come to mind when you think of a baby bib. I thought to myself, “these are the greatest little bibs ever! Why is this not the biggest little shop on Instagram?!”
For one, this little shop is still pretty much brand new [they opened just a couple of months ago]. And I wasn’t the only one who thought they were pretty great. Only a few weeks after starting the Instagram account, Billy Bibs got “mobbed” by the sweet and supportive small shop community and went from having only a handful of followers to 14.6K followers [as of press date] virtually overnight! To see more about “mobbing,” check out the hashtag #youvebeenmobbed on Instagram.
I reached out to Kristina, owner and designer of Billy Bibs to find out more about her designs and her business. She explained she was inspired to come up with a better, cuter bib design after the birth of her daughter. Kristina only found plain or ugly bibs out there and hated covering up her daughter’s nice clothes with these bibs, especially for special occasions. And she took her concept one step further and made each bib double sided, so it’s like getting two bibs in one!
At the time of our conversation, I told Kristina I wish I would have had her bibs around when my daughter was younger, because I was now expecting a baby boy and my little girl is almost two years old. She had more good news for me. For one, she recently just released boy bib styles [and some of her existing styles I consider unisex]. In the above picture, my daughter is wearing a ‘boy’ bib style and my baby boy is wearing one of Billy Bib’s original best selling styles, the aztec pom. Secondly, Kristina explained that she considers her bibs to be “outfit changers” as much as they are functional bibs, so she suggested my daughter could wear them as well to give an outfit a new look. I think I agree. Win/win.
And now, she makes these sweet little tie on collars for girls. Also a great way to change up an outfit!
The quality of these heirloom quality pieces is to die for. Every detail has been well thought out, right down to the contrasting string ties rather than fabric going all the way around so they can even update your little one’s favorite romper.
