earth day deals for eco-conscious living
Happy Earth Day everyone! Eco-conscious living has been at the forefront of my mind from a very young age. I remember learning about how much waste we were putting into our landfills and recycling in elementary school. I stopped eating red meat as a teenager and eventually became the [mindful] pescatarian I am today. Because, as I’m sure you already know, the process of getting meat to our tables is far more damaging to the environment than the process of getting whole plant foods to the table. Earth Day is a great reminder that we are all in this together, that we all have to do our part to take care of our beautiful Mother Earth in any way we can.
Speaking of whole plant foods, I subscribe to the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) newsletter which has a plethora of information that you can’t find anywhere else about many products we use every day, from food, to personal care, to cleaning, all to make you a well-educated consumer. If you buy a lot of produce, you have probably heard of the “dirty dozen” and the “clean fifteen.” If you haven’t, these two lists are a simple way to get started on what and when to buy organic, and when you can skip it! The EWG tested thousands of United States crops to come up with this updated list, which was released last week. You can read more about this fascinating study on the EWG website.

If you don’t have a lot of time to plan and shop for ingredients to cook all these beautiful fresh whole foods you will be buying [who does?], I am still loving our Sun Basket deliveries that I blogged about a couple of weeks ago. After trying it out for that review, we loved it so much, we are keeping it going! I love that this San Francisco based company requests that you recycle all packing materials by sending them back to them, and that the mostly organic ingredients are SO fresh because it is all coming from Pacific Coast farms and they only deliver in the Western United States at the moment. I think you will love it! Get $30 off your first Sun Basket order here!
One of the easiest ways to cut back your family’s personal impact on the environment is to simply consume less, waste less, and re-use and recycle more. We know this. But for those times when you do need to purchase new products, consider purchasing from companies who take an eco-minded approach to the production and distribution of their products.
The Honest Co. was born in the same year as my first born son, in 2011. At the time, we had decided to do cloth diapering for our fresh babe. But for those times when we needed to be out and about or traveling, etc., I wanted a diaper that had a minimal impact on the environment while still being economical. After trying several different disposable diaper brands, The Honest Company diapers worked best for us! Now this company has grown so much and they have a huge product range beyond baby, including cleaning, feeding, nutrition, and beauty. Since we are now on baby number three and there have been far fewer cloth diapers going on over here, I LOVE the diapers and wipes bundle that comes straight to our door every month from Honest.
