girls’ trip: cabo
I want to dive right into my most recent Cabo Girls’ Trip. But first, it feels a little disingenuous for me not to address my lack of posting here recently.
In case you’ve missed me here on the blog ๐ I do post pretty regularly on my Instagram, where I have had some really amazing brand projects recently. But to be perfectly honest (because here on my blog feels like my safe space where I can be totally honest with you guys), keeping up with all the social media channels, my blog, and the exceedingly fast pace of our family’s real life is freaking exhausting! And real life always takes precedence in my world. Posting regularly here has proven especially challenging since I took a break from all social media a couple of years back.ย So, I guess- sorry not sorry for my lack of blog posts lately. But I am happy to be back!
Ok now on to this Cabo Girls Trip! I personally always love reading how other people do places I want to visit. In this AI-generated world we now live in, my hope is to give you real-life examples of itineraries that worked well for us, so they can help you plan for your vacations too.
If you’re new here, my besties from college and I take a girls trip every year together and we always go to a different place. It’s been nearly 20 years now since we graduated college and started doing these trips, with some years off for weddings and babies and such. But isn’t that amazing!? I’m so proud of us that we have continued to make this tradition happen, even amongst our busy lives and schedules.
In recent years, we have taken to drawing out of a hat for our next year’s trip. We usually plan to go in the spring, because that seems to work well for everyone’s schedule, but the location is always up for grabs. So we all throw out ideas during whatever our current trip is, and then on the final night, we each put in our top choice, pull it out of a hat, and that’s where we go! Last year, when we were in Vegas for Taylor Swift, we actually ALL VOTED FOR THE SAME PLACE. This has never happened before. And that place was CABO!
If you are following along on Instagram, you may have noticed that I did create a day-by-day travel mini vlog series on Reels. But for those of you who want the whole itinerary in one place, I am also going to outline it here, for easy reference. I feel that we were able to pack a lot into just 3 days, so buckle up!
Also, some of you may remember this is not my first time to Cabo. My husband and I went a few years back to celebrate his birthday, just the two of us. Although we did repeat some of the same restaurants on this trip as our last, it also was a totally different trips in many ways! So be sure to check that post out if you want more ideas for a couples trip instead.
Just as an aside, I personally don’t think Cabo is great for kids. Having been a few times now, I don’t usually see a lot of kids around, and I can’t really picture myself there with kids. There are so many great parts of Mexico for kids though – check out this stay we did on the Riviera Maya side a few years ago too.
DAY 1
We did our best to coordinate all of our flights to arrive mid-day on a Thursday so we could enjoy a long weekend together. This mostly worked, other than one out of five of us having a delayed flight. Not bad, considering we were coming from four different places!
From the airport, I recommend arranging a car service in advance through your hotel or accommodations. There are a TON of people standing around outside and in the airport and although I can’t say for sure, I think a lot of them would be very happy to rip you off if given the chance. We arranged our car service through our vacation villa rental (more on that to come below) and we did pay a little extra to have a stop on the way in at Flora Farms.
flora farms
This place is one of the repeat offenders in Cabo for me, because I LOVE the food, craft cocktails, roaming the gardens on the grounds, and there are even a few small retail shops. I highly recommend planning your stop at Flora Farms either on your way from, or back to the airport, because it is about 45 minutes drive from Cabo San Lucas proper. So if you plan to go on a separate day of your vacation, you could easily spend a whole day here, between the travel time, eating, and exploring the property. Reservations are highly recommended!
villa rental
My friend Megan, who did most of the organizing for this trip, had done a recent trip to Cabo, and she was the one who recommended getting a vacation rental house. As a group of girls, we love a rental like this for most of our trips anyway, so we can all be together and gab. But did you know in Cabo, specifically, you can get a lot of the same services as a hotel at a vacation rental property, and they can really be quite reasonable if you have a group to split the cost with? I’m talking a concierge to coordinate car transfers and activities, your own personal chef,ย massages, even a place with a pool!ย This one is in the Pedregal neighborhood of Cabo San Lucas, so it was walkable to the downtown area of Cabo.
HOT TIP: there are two main areas of “Cabo” – Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo. The latter is closer to where the airport is, and has more of the big, all-inclusive resorts. If you prefer smaller resorts, vacation rentals, and/or just being closer to the town and nightlife, you are going to want to look in Cabo San Lucas.
We found our villa through a third party home rental site, but you can save a bit by booking directly with Cabo Villas.
bar esquina
After we got all checked in and settled, we got ready for dinner. Another repeat offender, but not mad at it: Bar Esquina. Somebody somewhere once said this is one of George Clooney’s favorite spots, and that was all I needed to hear. Located inside the posh Bahia boutique hotel, it has a very chill vibe with live music most every night and pretty stellar food. Although it wasn’t busy when we were there, I’ve heard it can get busy during their high season (near the winter holidays and spring break), so again, reservations are recommended.

DAY 2
Anyone else not sleep well on vacation? I didn’t have a big time change (just one hour back from my MDT time zone), but I never sleep well in a new place. My friend who lives on the east coast and I were both up early, and she is also my fellow yogi, so we did a little yoga flow to start the day. I don’t have any stills that documented this, but I did take a timelapse that is on my Day 2 mini travel vlog on Insta.
Remember how I said that you can have your own personal chef come in and make you meals? You guys. I won’t document every meal we had with him, but this was the BEST investment. The chilaquiles (which is one of my favorite Mexican dishes) were the best I’ve ever had, no exaggeration. Our whole group will attest to this fact. And for an idea of cost: each of our two breakfasts was $20/per person, and our one dinner was $43/pp. Cheaper than eating out in Cabo, and we had a ton of leftovers too!
We used the catering company that our concierge for the Villa recommended, which was Chile & Lime catering and we had a wonderful chef (the same person came every time). I cannot recommend this service enough!
boat day!
We set aside this day for our boat tour. Because we had one friend who was worried about getting seasick, we didn’t want to itinerary to be too packed. So after our slow morning and delish breakfast, we headed down to the marina to meet our yacht. We did splurge for a private yacht, although there are options where you pay per person and may be paired with other groups. We felt the private option was well worth it in the end to have all to ourselves. Such a fun little luxury and for our group, about the same cost as the per person rate. We again went with what the concierge recommended, which was Cabo Yacht Life. We had a great crew and the service was wonderful.
On our boat adventure, we anchored in Chileno Bay and had the chance to get in the water and play. They rolled out a floating “lily pad” for us and the captain was also throwing tortillas in the water – I guess to attract the fish, but it also attracted seagulls. Not my personal fave but it was part of the adventure!
After this epic day of fun in the sun, we planned for a low-key dinner with our chef back at the villa, which was just fine by me! We were all pretty wiped from being outside all day, so it was nice to just hang out and do some more chit-chatting.

DAY 3
We started with another lazy morning, because, who doesn’t love lazy mornings on vacation? Not pictured, but we did have some massage therapists come in for three in our group and it was such a treat. Cost here I would say is more in line with what you might expect in the US. Initially it seemed pretty affordable, but once you added in all the taxes, fees, and tip it was pretty standard pricing. We used the concierge’s recommended mobile spa, and you can find more on their services and pricing here.
Our friend Leigh brought us each a fun little sarong so we could match for this trip, so we obvi had to get a pic.
After our pool time, we headed into town to walk around a bit and explore before dinner. We walked through town from our villa towards the marina and the beach. We walked past Bagatelle (which had a party vibe for sure) and landed at The Office, which is a Cabo beach bar/restaurant staple since at least my college days. As in, I vaguely remember it from college, and I don’t think its changed much. ๐
On our walk back, we also stopped at Outpost for one more drink, because we all thought it was so cute when we passed in the first time coming through town. Turns out, it is a sister restaurant to Flora Farms, with equally delicious craft cocktails. So if you don’t have time on your vacation to make it to Flora Farms, know that Outpost is right in town with a similar menu!
On our final night in Cabo, we got ourselves a reservation at Rosa Negra, which was recommended by several friends. This place also had a fun party vibe, but more sophisticated than some of the spring break-type bars in downtown Cabo. Perfect for our group for 40 year olds ๐ The place was packed and it felt like a party from the moment we walked in, with music to match the demographic, if you ya know what I mean haha. They do these incredible nightly fire shows, and we got lucky with a table right up front for the action. After dinner, we just stood right up from our seats and danced the night away. The food was also amazing. Overall 10/10 for Rosa Negra – I highly recommend!

DAY 4
Our final day was really a travel day. Got up, ate some leftovers, packed, and headed to the airport. My travel day was a longer one since we live in the mountains of Colorado now (no direct flights) but was it oh-so-worth-it for this fabulous girls trip with some of my favorite people! If you are planning a group trip anytime soon for a special occasion or just for fun, I highly recommend Cabo!
